History

Having been a hotel since 1896, the Commodore has been and still is an important part of the town.  During its history the Commodore Hotel has had the pleasure of accommodating many well known personalities over the year, including royal patronage when the King of Jordan visited the town, and one of the hotel’s bathrooms was especially designed for him  The hotel has also featured on many postcards issued over the years

The first two floors of the Hotel Commodore was originally a Rectory and was built circa 1882 by Archbishop de Winton. Archbishop de Winton died in 1885 and the family then sold the Rectory to Doctor Greenway.

Doctor Greenaway added two further storeys and changed the name to the Plas Winton Hotel.  During World War II the hotel became an Officer’s Training Camp and after the war was renamed the Hotel Commodore

The first Bar to be opened in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II was the Log Cabin Bar at the Hotel Commodore.  The Bar has been much updated over the years but the atmosphere still exists

When you visit the Hotel you will see that there is an abundance of photographs of the hotel and Llandrindod Wells for you to look at, how times have changed.

Below are scenes of Llandrindod Wells in times gone by, why not take a look!
